Can the prius run on e85?

The owner's manual says don't do it. A few people have burned a few tanks worth of E85 in their Prii, but presumably components in the fuel system would be damaged over time.

Prius owner's manual only states that you can use up to 10% ethanol (E10).

It is possible to use E85 (85% ethanol), but no long-term studies have been done yet (ethanol can break down parts of a car over time).

Short term study by the Creed Project:

showsthat you'll get a check engine light, cold start emissions are higher, and overall MPG is lower. There's at least one person from Sweden on the Prius-Europe yahoogroup that is currently using E85 as a blend in his Prius.
