( 620 SDI Automatic)

Yesterday when getting in the car and starting it up, i tried the gears and found the stick to be Very loose all over the place, it also will NOT go into first gear but will go ok in reverse. This is a problem as i cant drive it like this, any idea what is causing it or has caused it to go like it?

Watch the gearbox from under the bonnet, whilst someone moves the lever up and down through its full range (obviously don't have the engine running....!) if you can see the linkage moving OK then it sounds like an internal gearbox fault. If you can't see (or hear) any movement then I suspect the selector cable is broken. Hope this helps a little.

Thankyou for the reply ill check the car later and report back.

Had a look under car found what looks like, a bush in a small bracket two arms of this bracket have sheared preventing correct movement of the gear change arm. Is this an item that can be easly purchased and easily changed? *axs to it looks easy enough*.

Has anyone got a picture of it in a haynes manual ?

Thanks for the help im glad its outside the gear box ;)

Have had this problem myself,I've welded it three times in two years if it goes again I`ll buy a new one,£110 for a manual one plus VAT,not sure about auto,my local dealer stocks them and new exactly what I meant ( very unusual ) so much be very common.
