94 GM900S - Front end shake

My 1994 GM900S has a front end shake. Some more info:

On the highway:

Doesn't happen all the time; comes and goes, but a weak undercurrent seems to almost always be present.

Gets worse when turning to the left; when pulling the wheel to the right, even slightly, the shake gets much LESS.

When it's really cold out (like six degrees (F) the other morning), it hardly happens at all.

When the shimmy/shake happens, the front end makes a back-and-forth wobble sound. To explain, imagine having a metal shaft with washers welded onto both ends, with a cylindrical collar on the shaft. The collar can move back and forth until it hits the stops on the end (think of a barbell set; shaft with large ends). But the collar ONLY moves back and forth on the X axis, not on the Y or Z axes. Make sense? That's the sound and feel of the front end wobble.

I'm ready to get all new axles and strutts, unless someone reads this and can say "it's 90 percent mostly likely to be ..." Thanks,

There was a previous trail on this problem. It seems to come and go with changes in the temperature. Changing tires and rims did not help. The dealers have said it is "normal". Some have reported the shake only under hard acceleration - again, the dealer says it is "normal" and won't look at it. Since the car is a 1994 it is beyond any warranty. Two things to remember - the "new and improved" NG900 does not have caster and camber front end adjustments. If your alignment is out on these two it will stay out. This is an "improvement" over the Classic which has an align able front end. I have had the front end of a C900 shake like this, but this happened after driving over a load of lumber at highway speeds when a truck lost its load. It was corrected by an alignment.

Solutions: You may be on the right track with new axles/drive shafts. Logically this front end shaking could be due to slightly out of balance drive shafts. Just make sure the new drive shafts are balanced before you go to the trouble of have them installed.
