Battery not charging

SAAB 9000 CDE

The battery is not charging on my SAAB 9000 CDE.

Measuring the voltage on the battery shows just over 12V, on the alternator it is about 14V, so I'm losing nearly 2V in the cabling!

The battery is new ... in fact I got a warranty replacement a few days ago after convincing the garage that the fault was with the battery ... and the alternator has been recently replaced.

Has anyone seen this before? Can anyone suggest where I should look first?

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

How does the cabling look?

You need to have clean connectors, and new ones I would suggest. If you see any "greenish/bluish" material on the blue or red cabling, then you need to clean that off with (Coca Cola), and likewise at the Alternator.

Make sure you unplug the battery and alternator first before cleaning both ends of the cabling.

You may just need to end up replacing the cabling if it is really bad.

I haven't look too much at the cabling yet ... what I have seen at either end looks clean enough. The AA patrol man clean up some connectors on the distribution block just in front of the battery.

Thanks,

Mike
