Broken Clutch

Jun 01, 2006 4 Replies

Hi,

Today while driving, my clutch peddle had a noise as if something broke and then got loose completely. The gears are working fine. Anyone having an idea what could be the problem? Mine is 1997 Saab 900SE Turbo. Does 1997 Saab's clutch have hydraulic system or its simple cable?

Thanks, Murtuza.

In MY '97 the NG900 had a cable operated clutch. They were known to have problems (auto adjust) and break occasionally. I'm sure that is your problem. It should not be too awfully expensive a fix at an independant SAAB specialist.

$50 for the cable, one hour or so to install.

I suggest replacing them every 50k miles. They tend to wear. The good news is that your clutch should be much smoother with a replacement.

Thanks Fred,

Yep: Cable $57 Labour: $117 !!

Its pretty smooth. Sometime I do find difficult to put it in reverse. I need to get that checked during my next servicing.

Thanks,

-Murtuza.
