C900 Probs - Help Please!

Hiya,

I've finally got a Saab!! It's a 1987 T16. Great car, bit shabby and needs some TLC, but I've already managed to welcut out and weld new metal in to get rid of the rot and fitted a new set of bushes to the front suspension for it's MOT. Before I take it to be retested, I've one other prob to sort, a low effort to the handbrake on one side - it's a front wheel h/b. Is it gonna be a cable, or something seized? I haven't got my hands on a workshop manual yet and I can't fathom it!

Also, ot anMOT problem, but the carpets are damp in both front footwells. This has happened while the cars been stood while repaired. No holes in floor as we've welded them all, and no coolant being lost? Is there drain holes somewhere that could be blocked? Door bottoms or sunroof drains?

Ta for any help,

Ben

You can have a go at putting new pads and setting the brakes up correctly, but it may well not work. IME the calipers don't last much longer than 17 years!

If the setting up doesn't work, you need rebuilt calipers. They're abouy £60-£70 each.

Yes, could be sunroof drains, and could be cabin air filter box drain. Driver's side, engine bay, just under the slots in the bonnet. Check it's clean + drains freely.

Congrats on your new ride. I also have an '87 T16 (and an '88 900 SPG).

As for the carpet getting wet, there is a drain tube that comes off the bottom of the outside-air-intake/A/C box on the firewall. Right under the vent slots in the hood is a little triangular projection ("box") where the vent system brings in fresh air and the A/C chiller sits, and down at the bottom of this "box" is a groove leading to a drain hose that is supposed to drain out through the fender shield by the right-side front wheel. It can be difficult to get your hand, etc down in there, but check for leaves, etc to be obstructing the flow and causing water to build up and run into the vent system, and runs out on the slope of the footwell. Also, make sure the hose is not kinked or obstructed between the bottom of the "box" and the fender shielding.
