Detachable tow bar

Aug 23, 2004 1 Replies

Hi, I asked for a quote for a detachable tow bar (fitted) from my saab dealer here in Finland. The saab dealer is asking fo 590 euros. I also asked a small garage that spezialise in exahausts and tow bars on all makes of cars. They offered a Bosal hook for 380 euros fitted. Is the Bosal a quality product? What tow hook do saab use? Is there any reason why I should pay over 200 euros extra for the saab dealer to do the job?

I installed Saab's towbar on my 2004 9-3 Aero myself. The dealers wanted between 300-500 US dollars just for the labor ($85-100 per hour depending on the place, they all said "it will take at least 3 hours"). My dad and I did it in less than an hour, including a short lunch break. I followed the installation instructions that came with the hitch and had no trouble at all. The instructions were a little vague on some points because they seemed to be written for mechanics who are obviously pretty familiar with the car already. In the end, I saved a ton of money, didn't have to give my car up for a day, and got some satisfaction by doing something myself.
