Elksport Stage1

I am thinking of getting the stage 1 ECU upgrade. They are claiming

40+ increase, is this credible and has anyone actually bought one? Was it worth it?

Cheers

35-40bhp is achievable although depending on what car you have, most people seem to recommend the Maptun ECU. Each ECU will have slightly different characteristics bring in more power and torque at different levels. I have a Hirsch ECU on my '98 9000 and it took the power from 225bhp to 285bhp although Hirsch say it adds only 35bhp.

Elksport re-sell the Swedish Speedparts upgraded. Yes, they're credible. There are other upgrades out there ... Maptun spring to mind. Do be aware that in some circumstances, the ECU is wiped at the service, so that's a lot of money wasted if Speedparts or Maptun will not re-flash the ECU.

The thing about ECU upgrades is that the lower specification cars, say the

170 BHP 2.3t 9000, are the self same cars as the higher specification, say the 210 BHP 2.3T 9000. There's your 40 BHP; it just needs the ECU from the higher specification car. I wonder what SAAB charge for the ECU? On the higher specification cars, I think the power gains are perfectly achievable.

If there are existing engine problems, then the software will detect that and curtail the power accordingly. A clean bill of health from a reputable SAAB specialist prior to purchasing the upgrade will almost certainly guarantee the figures.

The Hirsch stage 1 upgrade took my 05 9.5 2.0t from 150 to 210 bhp. The advantage of the Hirsch upgrade is:

That it is installed by Saab dealers.

Does not impact the Saab warranty in any way.

And the initial purchase guarantees reloading the ECU in case of a software fault or ECU exchange. Hirsch record the VIN no of the car that is upgraded and guarantee the software on that car

AFAIR, only the 1988 CD was sufficiently different to the CS model. It was DI+APC, rather than DI/APC. I'm not entirely sure what the difference is, but I do know that the donor car for grafting DI onto the C900 B202 should be a 1988 9000 CD. To that end, I think that MY had separate APC and FI ECUs.

I think therefore you car is the same, engine-wise, as the same model year CS. I'm sure Speedparts or Maptun would know for sure. Perhaps you could find the serial number off the ECU and have one of the performance tuners confirm.

I'm interested in getting the Nordic Stage 3. What do I have to do to get this working on my car? I see how it is installed. Will I have to bring the car to a dealer to get it running correctly? Or will it just come up and run ok?

You just need to install the ECU and relevant hardware and the car should run fine. It may be worth putting your car on a dyno before and after to see that what increase you are getting.
