Headlight wiper motors

Hi,

The car is 1997 (9000 LPT). A while back one of the headlight wiper motors went, as the car was going at the dealer's anyway I asked to have it replaced. They never kept the old unit despite having asked them to do so. (the new one cost an arm and a leg). BAsically I had wanted to see inside the motor and see if I could have fixed it (and have it for the next time).

Now the other one is gone and on Wednesday the car is going in for a service. Can the wiper motor be repaired? What goes wrong with it?

I could get to it (this is on the left side of the car ... looking at it from inside the car, the previous one was on the right). I had got to the previous motor as for some reason I had to have the light out but I could not unhook the wiring loom.

They can be repaired depending on what's wrong. The problem with mine was that the motor was a little off because it only gets to run in very short cycles. I hooked it up and ran it for about five minutes and then it ran great.

The trouble I ran into was getting all the gears and levers back in proper sync when reassembling the unit. I couldn't get the exact timing. I thought I had it a couple of times, but something is off as the cycle does not return properly. If you decide to DIY, be very, very careful to note the position of every piece as you disassemble. Maybe you will have more luck than me. Also, the unit is not designed to be opened for repair, but if you stick with it, it will come apart. At worst, you can just replace the unit with one from
