Iridum Plugs- are they ok in my 9-5?

The Saab engine management system uses the spark plug to, among other things, measure the combustion mixture's impedance to decide when to fire the spark. It's a critical piece of engine instrumentation. If iridium was the right material for those sensors, Saab would have used it, and they didn't. If you google for alt.autos.saab, my name, and the word "impedance", you'll most likely find a couple of pointers to a (very) technical article that goes into exactly what they're using 'em for. Short answer, nope, stick with the NGKs that the manual calls out.

If they are NGK-plugs with an "R" in the name, you're of okay. If not, loose them right away or you're heading for at new DI-module.

That said, if they're the right NGK-type, still, save your money and use the copper-type. The Iridium-plugs will last maybe 50% longer, but are more than twice the price of the copper-plugs.
