Leather in new 9-3 Vector - from which animal?

I would expect they couldn't call it leather if it wasn't bovine sourced, leather is afterall a descpription of treated cow hide.

Nope the OP is correct to ask - as any animal hide correctly treated can be called 'leather'. For example, I have an old pair of RCMP riding boots I use for my Rickmann ZIR where the uppers are in fact all pig skin.

However, I'm pretty sure all standard SAAB leather is cowhide. You can tell the difference as pig skin has a much rougher surface. It's tougher by weigh as well - which is why it makes such ripping good high speed riding boots.

Then what is "pigskin leather"? - boots, gloves, suitcases, belts.... car seats?

ISTR you can tell pigskin by the prominent pores. This may, of course, be tosh. Otherwise, I'd expect it to be cowhide: you get bigger skins than you do from pigs, which should simplify cutting upholstery sections; and you will not be the only buyer of upper- crust cars who is leery of pigs -- how many Saabs sell to Muslims for example?

BTW, is pig still considered unclean in some religions even if it is not being eaten? It's not as if the human backside epitomises cleanliness. ;-)

Never heard of that one. But I suppose if you really spooled up a GL99 Turbo on the right roads in Alberta - you 'might' have ended up with Buffalo hide.. :) .. (sorry couldn't resist)..

All kidding aside - this is a valid question for many folks who take this sort of thing seriously. Which - while I may not personally subscribe to your tenets - I can respect as much the I would expect anyone to respect mine.

So again - I'm sure that the SAAB leather interior is not swine. The greater general concern is more often related to wether or not the leather has been got too much sun (cracks and splits) or has become wet from a leaky sun roof (becomes hard and the seams blow).

Personally - I'm not sure I can recommend a 'brand new' 9-3 given the depreciation as you roll off the lot. But if you can get your hands on last year's overstocked model - you can get a machine that is both clean and a reasonable warranted deal.

For whatever it may be worth to you know - I think you can get cotton seat covers through various volunteer organizations attached to your temple, mosque, ashram or church (yes - there are some very traditional Christians who preclude contact with swine too) if you are not completely sure about where an older 2nd or 3rd hand model has been.

Personally, I have a low tolerance for this sort of thinking. If people have problems with something like this they should just abstain. The obvious answer to the WWJD question is: nothing. He would walk, of course.
