2001 9-3 squeeky tailgate

Hi This creaking noise coming from the rubber seals around the hatch back has started to bother me so much that I thought I would ask if anyone else has had the same problem. It can be noticed when turning corners or going over bumps. It seems that the body twists (or the tailgate) and rubs against the seals. I have tried treating the rubber seals with sillicon but it did not help and may have made the noise worse. Does anyone have any suggestions on what to try next?

thanks, keith

I don't know whether the 9^3 has them, but I'll post this anyway. Most cars have some kind of rubber stops either on the tailgate or on the body. The purpose of these is to support the tailgate when it's closed. They are usually adjustable, often by turning in/out.

If your car has them, you need to adjust them so that the tailgate is better supported, equally on both sides.

Maybe he'd be better off with an older Saab. They don't squeak or rattle.
