Misfire on 9000 Aero

I've recently bought a '93 9000 Aero with 115,000mls on the clock. It runs very well normally - the only problem is that it occasionally has an annoying misfire under heavy acceleration. The car literally seems to miss a beat, then carries on and revs out to the redline. I've noticed this in both 2nd and 3rd gears. I'm wondering if I've an ignition problem somewhere (HT lead breaking down?) or maybe one a vacumn hose has perished and is leaking. Any ideas??

Thanks, Andrew

Are you using super unleaded petrol (97 or 98 RON in the UK)? I seem to remember that the Aero engine requires this.

Just a thought.

just using regular unleaded to be honest - never thought of using super, but I'll try it.

Check the sparkplugs - MUST be NGK BCPR-7ES gapped to 1,1 mm. And NOTHING else...!!

Do you have a boost indicator above the fuel gauge? If so, look at it, when the "misfire" takes place. How far up does it go?

Cheers!

Won't cause a misfire anyway. Just a reduced power output as the turbo apc backs off on the boost level due to pin(g/k)ing. INstead, try swapping in anew set of NGK (nothing else, mind you) spark plugs.
