Possible fuel pump problems

Hi Guys, I have a '93 Saab 9000. A few weeks ago I had a tame mechanic fit a 'a good as new' fuel pump for me. All the while I keep the tank topped up there's no problem. However, it's when the fuel level drops below 1/2 a tank is when the problem starts. Normal driving is fine, but when I ease off the throttle to turn, slow down etc. the engine falters almost to stand still as I apply the throttle. What ever answers you have will be much appreciated, especially if they involve NOT forking out for another pump. Thankyou, ROO

I postulate that it was NOT "as good as new". Either that, or it was improperly installed. Was the repair not warranted??

Is yours one of the models with the pickup pump at the tank? If so, that pump has probably failed and the pump at the engine is having to draw fuel all the way on its own and is struggling at times.

Hello. Have you tried replacing the fuel filter? When clogged they can cause intermittent failures.

Good luck!
