Ah, OK. Not so up on them, always fancied one, because they sound fun though in a back to basics way.

well the size is similar, but more volvo 300 saloon than anything, too square..

A 99 has a few more nice curves on it, especially with that semi sweeping fastback look, concave rear window, clamshell bonnet, curved windscreen.

Actually one car that is often mistaken for a 70's saab of some sort, is the VW type 4..maybe this is what brian remembers...

Maybe right on the type four, although I thought that the Type 4 was a lot squarer than the fastback shown. The Variant looks like a type 4, but the cutaway fastback looks very type 3. Another car that I always wanted to get hold of.

Oh, I don't deny there was a 2 stroke Saab, just i don't think I've heard of a rear engined one. And I'm a sucker for a rear engined car, no matter what it's class status or performance (or even condition sometimes).

Very true. But werent most of them 3 wheelers? Or if 4 wheels, the two rears so close together they almost formed a roller at the rear?

Wow, looks like a rival to the Fiat 500/600/126 models. Probably arround the right age for a 500 direct competitor too.
