Squealing sound....

Greetings,

My 91' 900S has developed an odd intermitent squeeling sound. Turning the wheel slightly left or right, as well as applying even a slight amount of brake pressure causes the noise to stop. Any insight would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Front brakes. Your pads are getting worn and down to the squeal shims, put there to tell you when they're getting thin. 95% confident in this answer. If you're fairly comfortable with tools, it's an easy job to replace your pads on that car.

Could well be pads worn down. However, if the pads are known to be good, the squealing can be caused by the pads becoming glazed through lots of town driving and gentle braking. This glaze can be removed by some firm or hard braking from (say) 60 mph down to zero. Pick a straight dry road, and repeat the process two or three times. Remember to check your mirror first though! The noise can also be caused by a piece of gravel trapped between the caliper and disc, though this tends to produce a grinding noise rather than a squeal.
