That is the thing that Saab 900 classic owners never will own up to: Isthe 900 Classic a poor man's Porsche Carrera? Yes/No?

I'd not compare the 911 with the 900 and would have either of the same vintage with no problems (late 80s). One, however, would not feel like it were trying to kill me at every wet roundabout and so could be driven with more confidence in the wet. The other, that said, will be able to put more power down to the road.

I think it was Dad's 1972 99 GL. Or it was my uncle's 99 Turbo. Or it was a neighbour's 900 Turbo. Any way, it took a few years ;-) for me to get my own. And I had to decide that it was a good fit to my need, rather than buy it because we'd owned them in the past.

I appreciate the fact that my C9-3 and current 9-3 SS have been forgettable when I need them to be; long trips melt away. That's a combination of being easy and pleasant to drive, having decent seats and a driving position, being quiet enough. The 9-3 SS is quieter than the C9-3 TiD by a long shot but otherwise isn't more comfortable for one up, although it's a much wider cabin, so Charlie appreciates her own space.

I guess you'll be seeing some of us from the Netherlands finding our way back to good old usenet, since our much appreciated forum board (saabforum.nl) has been offline for over a day now, due to unknown hardware problems. In my search for a daily shot of SAAB talk, it came as a surprise to find I still had this unused icon for a newsreader on my desktop, that actually still works. But it feels like coming home.

I sometimes read (well, look at the pictures) on saabforum.nl ... uksaabs.co.uk goes offline every now and again and people read for their SAAB Central URLs. Although SAAB Central is an English forum, there is an international membership there.

I think Usenet has fallen behind, especially with regard to being able to show media other than text.

On the contrary, I use Usenet instead of the forums specifically because it has a better interface. Multimedia works in Usenet quite well. And when it comes to discussions, I like that the Usenet forums tend to be rather good. I remember how glad I was to find a SAAB group on Usenet.

Me thinking; what is a shed? In my book it is a car which has the appearance of being stuck together from different pieces of metal of different shapes and angles and creases. Just as you would knock up a shed from pieces left over from the builder. A prime example I can think of is the new Peugeot

308SW; a weird collection of creases and angles. Though a nice car in many ways, not a design I could live with.

I surprised a few 911s and M3s on the motorway in my old 84 16v T16S. I'm doing 70, they come screaming up behind flashing the lights and not slowing. So I boot it and open the gap. And yet they never seem to close it again.

The 9000 doesn't have the same "boom, brown trousers" feel.
