I am thinking of getting a performance enhancing ecu for my 9-5, the car is an approved used SAAB with SAAB's Dealer warranty, am I right in assuming that if I fitting the new part it will effect the warranty?

You could get a Saab approved upgrade (Hirsche I think ATM). That should affect the warrenty other than to the ECU (and any other parts that are done at the same time).
