Press Conference at 17:30 CET. Before that, everything's speculation - especially since Spyker's shares took a leap this morning.

Oh, and won't this just put us back to where we were in mid-June?

"Saab has apparently been rescued - in the nick of time. General Motors had already started to wind down the activities of its Swedish subsidiary, a process that will now be halted. Saab is to be bought by the Dutch sports-car manufacturer Spyker for US$74 million..."edit

and elsewhere of course.

I had no idea that sales were so poor last year - just 21,000 cars - lower than MG Rover before it was finally shut down. Of course, who's going to buy an expensive car brand that's in danger of being closed

So, we live to fight another day at least. Looks like medium-term survival 's all down to the new 9-5

The Independent isn't the most up-to-date news source, is it now? This was all officially announced two days ago.. :o))

Exactly. And we will se a steep rise in sales numbers, now that Saab again has a somewhat solid base...

I'm pretty confident, that the new 9-5 will do the job, as it is a very fine car - seen it in Trollhättan up REALLY close. ;o)) And also the upcoming 9-4X...

The Saab 9-7X was rebadged. The 9-4X will be with Saab's own interiør - much simular to the new Saab 9-5. As well as the whole setup is Saabs...

"Henrik B." gurgled happily, sounding much like they were saying:

Yeh, a Chev Trailblazer - as the 9-2x was a rebadged Scooby Impreza, and the Saab 600 was a Lancia Delta.

But they were hardly held up as part of the brave new non-GM future...

I do not really think that anyone is suggesting the brave new future will be non-GM. I think it is obvious that the new Saab will still have to work with GM rather closely for the foreseeable future. Saabs have been based on a lot of other technologies that were not 100% Saab, that doesn't make the car less-Saabish in and of itself. I'm interested to see where Spyker takes things.
