One thing I noticed straight-off when watching it all the way through last night was how easily Edd appeared to be able to remove the bolts from the back of the brake caliper! That's completely the opposite experience to what happened when I tried to get the front calipers off during the CV joint project a couple of months back. 8-)

Then again having a two-post hydraulic lift makes it all seem quite simple.

Got some good tips out of it though, such as the simple way of testing for exhaust leaks, etc.

Unfortunately the car Mike bought to do up was in good condition so the whole bodywork issue was never addressed. My car has fairly poor paintwork and there's a heck of a lot more rust appearing on the hood now. But I'm sure that's not too difficult to resolve.

Judging from the series it took him only 2 x 25 minutes to replace the exhaust system, do a complete all around brake job, replace the window motors and put in a leather interior. That's something that would take me a week... at least. Also, when selling the car they claim to make a small profit, but it seems to me that they do not take their spent time into account, parts only.

Of course! Who would count their wrench time when determining if they are making a profit or loss? I mean, except a pro mechanic naturally.

Heck, some of us even *enjoy* working on our old cars. It's therapeutic. Compare that with the $200/hour or more for a shrink and you come out even further ahead. ;-)

True, maybe I should have my son put my petty efforts on video and sell it to the DC too.... would make more money than just the small profit on the cars.

I thought it was quite funny that when Mike sold the car, the person looking at it knew exactly what she was doing! 8-) She did a good job to get it for a bargain price after all the work Edd has put into it. I wonder if it was a set-up for the camera.

Do those guys ever take any input from people outside the UK? Would be good to get some ideas from them. I just wish I had a workshop like Edd's - don't have anything at the moment (not even a garage - just an old timber framed carport with corrugated sheets for a root). That's why I do all my C900 work 'on the grass' so-to-speak. 8-)

The buyer of the completed car was the wife of the guy with the "Perfect Car", she wasn't the random off the phone punter she appeared. She was the wife of a living breathing Saab nut called StuNut on the Saabscene forums (Stuart Nuttall or something similar I think).

BTW, 6 months to a year after he bought it, it blew it's headgasket.

I figured there would have to be some sort of underhandedness about it. 8-)

He he - wonder if he reads this newsgroup? 8-)

Fair play, we all know that Saab engines can run for donkeys with no help,but servicing, and just about the only weakness is a headgasket that can when it feels like let go with no notice.

Was still a nice looking car.

When it was first shown over here, I had just bought my silver B reg. Sadly that has gone north to another owner (looking for a car for a weekend toy and resto project for a long time).

Was a good old boot, but needed too much small jobs doing for a daily driver. For someone with time and a garage or Money and no desperate need to drive it everyday initially, it would have been a nice easy fix.
