Hi

Some pixels are not diplayed on the SID (9-3 2000) and I would like to resolder the contacts between the cable and the PCB but I do not know how to remove the SID screen ? Any tricks ? similar problems ? Thank you..

It's only clipped in quite lightly. The official method is to take out the radio and then push the SID out from behind, but I found you can just lever it out with a small screwdriver if you're careful not to damage the plastic.

As for fixing it, it's not a soldering job. There's a few on-line fixes for the flexible cable based on trying to increase the pressure on the contact points but none of them worked for me. I ended up making a last-ditch attempt to completely replace the cable using wirewrap wire and conductive epoxy. Then I tried throwing it at a wall and jumping up and down on it. That didn't work either.

The final fix was to buy a reconditioned one and get it programmed for the car at an independent Saab specialist. That fix seems to be permanent. If you go down this route, don't do the wall-throwing and jumping thing first - you can get some money off the recon unit for the old one.

Cheers,

Colin.

I got mine fixed. You know how? With a twelve gage shotgun. Now I have too many pixels.:)
