'03 VUE gas milage

1) The EPA Fuel Economy Estimates are just that....Estimates. They are based on absolute perfect driving conditions: Not running the a/c, no head wind, perfect air temp and humidity; more or less a "perfect world", Which NOBODY lives in.

2) You are in California, California emmissions dramatically effect fuel mileage.

also there really isn't a need to let the car "warm up" anymore, yes, I aggree you souldn't start the car up and slam it into gear, but rather start it, let the car reach idle speed and go from there.

You need to keep in mind:

1) Compare apples to apples. You are no longer driving a 4-cyl small car. You now have a 6-cyl SUV, it has more weight and and 2 more hungry mouths to feed. On top of that being AWD 2 more wheel that at somepoint have power deliivered to them; more power used= less fuel mileage

I do feel that your mileage does seem a bit on the low side, but not totally off the wall

It's just my opinion and only that, do with it want you must but don't flame me.

However, the reported numbers on window stickers are lower than the test numbers (by 10% city, 22% highway) to reflect "real world" driving conditions. In practice, they are beatable in many vehicles, if the driver anticipates stops and slowdowns, cruises in the highest gear without lugging, keeps the vehicle in good condition (including tire pressure), etc..

I agree that engine break in won't be 5-6 MPG, but think that it could easily be 1-2 MPG. Mileage is affected by all of the other things I listed as well. Tire inflation pressure, for instance, could easily account for a major discrepancy between expected and actual.
