2007 Saturn Ion2 Air Deflector

This flat sheet of plastic painted the body color, located below th radiator has been evidently engineered too low to the ground. I frequently scrapes going over many types of inclines or declines. The sound is irritating and distressing. There are already man scratches on the painted surface of this plastic part. The head of the service dept. at my dealership I believe found thi amusing and could especially when I asked if there was a flatter exi to the parking lot then the one I scraped on the way in. I was tol the plastic is on springs and can take a beatng Can this part be replaced with one that allows more ground clearance? What would be the problem in totally removing it? (I've heard coolin problems could develop? Has anyone else experienced this kind of nuisance and could shar their solution if any

Why not take it off? I've had mine off for 6 years because it fell off and have had no problems and gained ground clearance. '94

I also had mine off on a '94 and it did cause overheating while on long trips, city traffic had no effect. If I remember correctly, the air dam is placed fwd of the radiator, different than the ION. The lower air deflector is attached on the bottom of the radiator of the ION and is designed to directly scoop air into the radiator. It does sit low, but then again, not much lower than most sport-type cars. You can try removing it, but I would carefully monitor your water temps afterwards.
