ION3 Gas Milage

I have a 5 speed manuel,i think the milage should be higher,i'm getting an average 360 miles/tank,that sucks!,does the a.c. run off the engine like my old Contour?,even on the Contour,i got over 400miles/tank.Also,I was told to use 87 octane gas.

That's 27.2 mpg, not really out of line (it's rated 26 mpg city, 33 mpg highway). Keep in mind the tank is only 50 liters (13.2 gallons) in these cars.

Did I see this post before? First, if you only have a few hundred miles on it, that's not the time to check gas mileage. I've owned quite a few new cars, and the gas mileage always sucks for the first 500 miles or so (the engines breaking in, or something). Usually your gas mileage should be a little better than advertised, unless you drive like a maniac or live in very mountainous terrain.

Sorry, I just had to say something.

You don't say how many gallons you're putting in. If it took 12 gallons, you got 30 mpg. If it only took 10 gallons, you got 36.

I'm not sure of the tank capacity, but when you figure your mpg, you figure it based on how much gas you actually put in. The amount you put in each time is the amount you used.

You can fill up when you've only used half of a tank and still figure your mileage. You never put a full tank in... that'd mean you ran out of gas! Could be also that you're filling up before you acutally have to, but I never like to push it too far.

Miles driven / gallons.tenths = mpg

For instance, my last tank in the '99 SL1, I had driven about 425 miles (this is very unusual!) and I put in 11.3 gallons.

425 / 11.3 = 37.6 mpg.

There was some highway mileage on this tank. Normally I've been getting about 34 mpg on my commute (35 miles each way). Before summer, I was getting

36+.

Instead of tanks and Fill and miles to tanks just do This...

Write down how many gallons of gas and how many miles divide the miles by the gas and you have Gas Mileage that's accurate..
