Labour hours for transmission examination?

Quick question, then my explanation: How many labour hours should I pay for to pull my transmission, open it up, and look for problems (don't factor in the drainage/fill times for the fluid...which, I'm sure, would be necessary for the inspection).

Latest estimate I've got for this is about $360CDN (about 5-6 hours labour - just to diagnose).

Hi, I have a 94 SC1 Auto, and I'm having transmission problems. The Saturn dealer wouldn't do anythign short of a rebuild or put in a new transmission (they don't deal with used parts), which was going to cost me $2000-$3000CDN. I'm having problems going into reverse. So, now I've taken it to Mister Transmission, and he did a quick diagnostic on it and found out "pressure line" problems and second gear problems. To find out the exact problem, he said he will have to pull it from the bottom and inspect it, which will cost $360. But then, I'm worried that he will say "rebuild", and at that point, I'll have already had it taken out, and still have to pay the $360. This seems like a bit much to just look at the gears and stuff. So, I've called up AAMCO, and I'm going to take it there and get a third opinion now.

Does this kind of problem sound like a rebuild? How much should I look to pay for physical inspection?

I have not owned an automatic in many years, but everyone I know who ever went to AAmco regretted it.

I bet someone you know or someone you work with can recommend a *non* franchise transmission shop in your area.
