Re: SL2 Auto Transmission "kicking" hard when put in Reverse!!!

low miles on a 98 - cool.

...clutch on an auto? I'm guessing you mean when take your foot off the brake. Anyway, sounds like a valve body. You can do a newsgroup search on Google and get an idea of cost. Here's a link that will take you there (it will pause, then do a redirect)

Before changing the valve body, you could try wolfman's "almost never fails" fix for this problem. It involves adding a flush additive and then running the car in reverse for 30 minutes with the wheels chocked, which cleans out the reverse passages in the valve body. Try this link for details:

If the link doesn't work, go to saturnfans and search for "reverse "slam" cure".

Interesting, how many people have tried this?

I haven't tried it myself (I have a manual trans) but it has worked for maybe a dozen people in the last year or so that I've been reading posts on saturnspot and saturnfans.

For me it was the black oval looking shift selector on the transmission. It happened when i removed my engine. You have to take a volt meter and check the resistance between the two blade type connectors. Loosen the two bolts that hold it on so that they will be finger tight. With the car in drive, not running, with the e-brake on, test the resistance, it must be "0". Leave the volt meter on when you tighten the screws because it will change when you tighten so be careful. Shift the gear selector inside the car from drive to park and back to drive, test the resistance again, if it hasn't changed your in buisness and hopfully, Fixed.

Just my opinion, Good Luck
