Car running after correcting cam timing.

Got it on the road today. Runs better. Not a big difference in seat of the pants feel but it is readily measurable with my G-Meter. Averaging three runs against three runs in May, on the same street, the

1/8th mile was 9.44 @ 73.9 compared to 9.7 @ 70.3 40-70 time was 4.8 compared to 5.6 Peak horsepower calculated at 173 compared to 162. I can notice the difference at the upper RPM range and don't notice any loss at the low end.

Congrats Alex. Those are good figures. Is that from just degreeing in the cam? I'd bet proffesional drag racers would pay thousands of dollars to get that kind of improvements. Jerry

I've mentioned moving the cam around a coupla times and get the old "why" answer. So and so has tryed it and found nothing...!

Assembled out of whack or not, the cam was still moved ahead and better performance was found......good for you. Don't stop there....

Way too much trouble to take apart again. If I was racing it would be different. Actually, the cam was set too far advanced so I retarded it to make it close to right on.

How about ambient temperature? Is all the improvement due to cam timing or could some be due to cooler inlet temperatures now compared to May?

It would have been an easy check if he had cranking compression figures before the change. In most all casses, the higher the cranking figures...the more power attained. If the cam were too far ahead or too retarded, the cranking compression would be lower thAn if the cam was at the best location for THIS combination of parts.

I've advanced and retarded cams this way a coupla times and it has worked out well so far.

Some of it could have been due to lower temperatures. One site said each 10 degree increase in temperature equals a 1% drop in power. The earlier tests were done in May but I don't remember how much hotter it was.
