Well at least we're #1 at something. So I guess when a stoplight turns from yellow to red in other parts of the country, that a minimum of 3 cars don't continue to go through it after it turns red?

When I drove OTR,the worst drivers were in OHIO.Those people don't know a on-ramp from an off-ramp. 3 drops of rain causes everyone to come to a screaching halt.

Never drove in PA or DC then, I take it. I grew up in western PA and used to think that driving in OH was pleasant, due to the better roads and more clueful drivers.

It has one bad cylinder and a friend complained that I was killing his crop of mosquitos and I replied, "No charge!"

At any rate, an in vehicle motah refreshing will be taking place in about a week. I'm told that it won't take any longer than a day, (Drive in in the morning and drive home in the evening).

We shall see...

________________________________ Yup, the writers never visited anywhere at all: "Men's Health's ranking used the NHTSA's data on the rate of fatal accidents, [rate per million miles driven--lends itself to several sorts of statistical hell-raising] deaths caused by speeding, [this is a MEN'S magazine? And aren't all deaths caused by speeding?] and seat belt use; [funny because of the shit-for-brains grammar; they just said that the deaths were caused by seat belts!] Allstate's data on accident frequency; [because I always run right to the insurance industry when I want to know how people drive] and the Governors Highway Safety Association's data on speeding drivers." [now THERE is one impartial source right there].

Which is to say, the whole survey was done on the intrawebs, and has nothing to do with what most of us would define as driving skills or lack thereof.

The cities with the safest drivers were: Des Moines; Jersey City; New York; Yonkers; and San Francisco. Yeah, right. Knoxville Iowa doesn't even make the cut?

These commentators do not drive. They are telling you where: (1)few die [no matter how much they may deserve it] (2)no one speeds [cowed by rapacious fines or the lack of sporting thoroughfares] (3)everyone wears seat belts [hardly an issue anymore, but likely based on ticketing] (4)no one files insurance claims [an administrative issue, implying an acceptance of minor damage and blood-curdling rates] (5) state government finds the speeding rate within acceptable levels. [see fines, above]

Of course, this is a Health magazine, not a driving magazine, and as such, looks forward to the resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. A car is a tool to get from point A to point B when the trains aren't running. Surprising they didn't work carbon footprints in there. To these guys, a "tranny" isn't the box of gears behind the bell housing.

FWIW, my Avanti spent its early years in Columbia SC, and had a wrong front end, deleted supercharger, and extinguisher foam in the driver's seat when I got it.

Hey! Quit spoiling our fun by pointing out the truth! I watched a news program last night (based out of NYC) where the host was reading the list on air. When he got the where it said NYC drivers were rated number three, he scrunched up the paper, threw it aside, and announced that the survey was junk. Did it right then and there. Made me laugh out loud. (In your indefensible defense, that's why I posted the link... It was quite a skewed survey) Jeff

In WA state most drivers aren't too bad, but I would welcome a basic safety inspection. We see way too many cars with not-so-clear plastic covering a broken window, translucent red plastic for a tail light lens that's been on there so long the tattered ends are flapping in the breeze. Donut spare tires that have been run until the cord shows through. They might as well have a sign on the back saying NO Insurance!
