totaled mach 1, how much would you pay?

A friend of mine has a '03 mach 1 that is totaled :(. None of the body panels are good on the car, but, pretty much everything else is fine. The motor might have 15,000 miles on it, the tranny is fine, the interior is perfect, the suspension(shocks, struts, springs) is fine, the rear end is fine, etc. What do you think this car is worth(its pretty much all stock)?? If anyone is interested in buying it, or knows an approximate value, let me know. It is in the new orleans area. Thanks, Erik D. '94 white lightning

Eh, I'd pay $200 for it. I could come and get it in about a week... ;)

Seriously though, sounds like he has the makings of a great swap. I wonder how easily that sweet Mach I drivetrain would swap into a FFR kit. :)

How did the Mach 1 get totaled? I don't get how all body panels got screwed, but nothing else got hurt...not even springs.. I'm just curious. No idea what it's worth.

It's pretty easy to mess up all the body panels on a unit body. Just hit hard enough in the front and back to tweak the frame rails front and rear. At that point one is lucky to have an undamaged door skin. Suspension, drivetrain, and interior will be intact.

I have no idea what it's worth... but I would love to find something like that in the Fort Lauderdale area. I'ld put the entire drivetrain in my '69 Mach 1. The '03 is probably worth a lot more than you think. I totalled a '71 Impala once. Same story... hydroplaned on the Palmetto Expressway and bounce off the center wall 3 or 4 times while doing a 360. What a ride (my friend and I were in no shape to drive but in a the right state of mind to enjoy it). We pulled the fenders away from the tires and drove away before the flashing lights got to us. Anyway, it had a strong 350 4V and a 4-bold rearend (only important if you like old chevys). I couldn't do body work so I sold it for a few hundred. Some luckly $%$#^& got a great deal. My recommendation is rebuild the '03 Mach. Look at it as a chance to customize the entire car... and it's cheaper than buying new.

Well, if I were selling a totalled car after an accident like that, I would say the same thing.

I think that might be the same guy over on

who bounced his around. He's a 19 y/o from Kentucky... I think he said it rolled, but I didn't see any damage to the top of the car. If its totalled, he doesn't own the car, the insurance company does. They might give him the option to buy the salvage, but its probably more than the car is actually worth.

Here's the link to the one I'mthinking about, but there has been a rash of totalled Machs lately, so itcould easily be a different one.

Doesn';t look like it rolled. The top itself is still okay besides some scratches. My guess it the hood got stuck under something an dthat ripped th shaker off..

Actually it looks very much like some others that I have seen that have flipped as opposed to actually rolled. The roof doesn't always hit if the car was going fast enough. From the way the corners of the car is damaged it almost looks like the car was tilted on it's axis while going end over end and side to side at a 45 degree angle. I have been told I am not allowed to use a broadsword to disprove ?The Pen is Mightier than the sword?.

I'd say its worth $3500. The drivetrain alone is worth more than that. I've heard of a few DSGs that were totalled, but none that really trashed anything but the frame (unibody) which can be purchased as a white body.

I think its worth it too, especially since I know what the insurance gave him for the car. He might not buy it back though, he's not sure yet if he wants to deal with selling it. Erik D. '94 white lightning

Just a damn shame I don't have the funds. I could think of some interesting things to do with a Mach 1 drivetrain. I have a few older foxes just hanging around...

No wonder Insurance rates are so high for young male drivers....

Yup. i agree. I learned my lesson at 20 when I hydroplaned. My friend was 18 with the Mach when he totalled it the other day. Chances are neither one of us will do it again, it comes with inexperience if you ask me(especially in a car with power). Erik D. '94 white lightning

Exactly.

I should be pushing up daisy for what I did as a STUPID kid. I must have one heckuva Guardian Angel!

One HUGE MISTAKE (I believe) alot of parents make (like mine did), was to PAY for their kids insurance premiums (on the parents policy of course).

IF I had kids, I would most definitely MAKE them Pay their OWN Insurance premiums.

That would be ONE deterrent to help teach kids responsibility and NOT go out STUNT driving!

Not sure what its worth, but I'd love if you could email me the 17 digit VIN to add to Mach-1.org We are trying to start a database there of Mach's that were totalled.

Thanks :-) D> A friend of mine has a '03 mach 1 that is totaled :(. None of the body

Hey Erik :-)

I've had the Mach in 3 shows since I bought it, and won 3 trophies. It's only been in 1 since the new paint was done. I can't wait for show season to start. I just had the Borla Stinger catback put on last week. Today, I picked up my mirror finish, polished shaker to put on coming through that black hood. I will have new pics soon enough ;-)

I am currently putting together a Southeast Mach 1 meet in Atlanta on March 6th ... so that's been keeping me pretty busy ... along with all the regular club stuff ;-)
