Looks promising!



New ceramic battery may replace gas engines by 2008.



Texas company is working on an "energy storage" device made from ceramics. It's not technically a battery because it doesn't use chemicals. It can allegedly charge within 5 minutes with enough energy to move a car 500 miles on about $9 worth of electricity -- about 45 cents a gallon.



According to the patent, the device is made of a ceramic powder coated with aluminum oxide and glass.



Company is very secretive, and has taken down its website.

if electricity is 8 cents a kilowatt.. we need to move 112.5 KW in 5 minutes..

22.5 kw a minute.. assuming 220 volts..103 amps.. 0 to be safe? IF my math is right..

In GB, electricity drops to 1/3 the price for seven hours during the night (balance the load) and I knew an electric car owner in SF area who had the same deal wih PG&E in 1972..

Good question. Assume $12.00/kilowatt/hour electricity charge

$9.00 worth is 750 watt/ delivered in 5 minutes is 9000 watts, not enough power to take to you 500 miles, but enough to require a massive charger to move that much current in five minutes. The numbers just defy physics. If you take out enough power to drive say 50 MPH for 10 Hours, you can't put it back in in 5 minutes without a cable the size of a tree trunk.

I pay 7.7 CENTS per KW I CERTAINLY do NOT want to live in YOUR area.. 100 watt light bulb would burn $1.20 per HOUR of use.. sure youa rent off 2 points in the decimal???LOL
