As I reflect on this, a few of long dormant brain cells kicked in. Gord, most of the Willys, Kaisers, Hudsons, etc. were crushed several years ago. I know this, because I used to have a Willys, and a desire to have a Kaiser. I went to Hauf's years ago to look for a part for the Willys, and approach Gene about buying one of the Kaisers that had been there on my previous visit. They were gone! Two things brought this on:
1) The Oklahoma Legislature, in its collective wisdumb, passed a law that required ALL cars in ALL salvage yards to be complete with title. We formed an army of old car guys, and got the law changed to cover just later model cars, but it was too late for too many old cars. The salvage operators had already crushed hundreds, if not thousands of them state-wide. The intent of the legislation was pure; you just can't expect those folks to understand that the chop shops aren't stealing and recycling parts and drive lines from Studebakers and Kaisers.
2) Gene made a business decision several years ago to shrink the overall size of the yard, so that he could pay taxes on an agriculture basis on several acres, instead of business use taxes. Several hulks were crushed to accommodate this move. (The pictured yard is, maybe ½ of what it used to be.
This is not to say that there is nothing of value left, but probably not much worth hauling very far. As promised, I will make a pass through the yard to check it out, it's possible something has shown up that I'm not aware of... once in a blue moon, he'll drag in something, but he has been in the mode of preparing for retirement for some time.
