2006 Forester Auto Trans Problem?

I have a 2005 Forester with a shifting problem which the dealer can't fix. It will intermitantly decelerate for a moment when I'm pushing down moderately further on the accelerator and it tries to decide what gear to be in then downshifts to second gear which is too low for the situation because the RPMs go too high and you get no acceleration. I live with this and have adjusted my passing technique accordingly. But now I hear that the 2006 Forester has addressed this problem and I would like to hear from any 2006 (or 2007) owners about how their cars shift and if any problems like mine. The car is perfect otherwise and I would trade if I knew that would solve this one problem. Mine is not a turbo. Thanks very much.

My 2006 Forester is a manual but the dealer gave me a 2006 Forester with automatic trans. for a loaner when I was having some work done. It seemed to shift properly and no problems accelerating.

I have a 2006 Forester X with about 3500 miles on the clock. I do find it annoying that it shifts down to second from fourth with moderately hard throttle command. I am learning to live with it, but would prefer not to have to put up with the extreme unexpected high RPM when it shifts down, and of course it almost instantly shifts back up as speed increases a bit. Feels like improperly matched gear ratios. I Guess I'm just spoiled by my '64 Studebaker Hawk. :o)

You don't have to live with it. Just shift to third yourself.
