2006 Forester--is the tweeter kit worth it?

I added the tweeter kit and replaced all four speakers. I needed to make mounts in the doors to accomodate a bigger speaker - used MDF. Crutchfield has the speaker dongle - same one used in Toyota if memory serves me. Effort was well worth it. Once you get the factory speakers out you'll understand what I'm talking about. They are paper.

Did you think the tweeter kit was worth adding since you were already replacing all four speakers? Neither my husband nor I would do the installation ourselves, so I presume that Best Buy or Circuit City would know how to install the door speakers.

Just get good front and rear speakers and skip the $60 tweeters. Try crutchfield.com

I would also agree. Good front speakers will make the most difference. I also added a 75 watt amp since the new speakers could handle more power.

went through the same issue last year...

I listened to demanding music in a Forester WITH the tweeters and was not impressed.

Instead, I put in a pair of reasonably priced 6 1/2 inch Alpine SPS-170a speakers with aim-able tweeters in the front doors (no mods needed) and WOW!

What a difference. Those upward aimed tweeters really pushed the highs into the cabin - much much better than the door top ones.

Skip the factory stuff and get some decent speakers installed.

If only there was a decent way to mount a subwoofer.

My new/used Outback has the tweeters in it, but on my older Subaru, which I just sold, I replaced the front speakers with really good two-way speakers and they sounded great. I have to agree that good front speakers will do the job for a lot less money. Go to Crutchfield. They're the experts, and have kits for damn near every car ever made.

To the "purist," the tweeters should be at ear level. Just depends how far you want to go and how important a sound system is in your car. I want decent sound, but I'm not trying to drown out a blown muffler or wind noise.

Thanks to you and everyone else that answered. You mention the Alpine speakers and I've always liked Alpine, so thanks too for the recommendation. My husband's Legacy already had the tweeters but his car is five years old--we thought maybe the Subaru tweeters were a little better now. Sounds like they are still not worth the 90 dollars or so. Thanks again.

What is a speaker dongle?

The tweeters can be found after market for as low as $30 for the set. I upgraded my 1999 Forester speakers to Polk and the head unit to Alpine. I added the tweeters a few years later (simple to install, real simple). There is a difference, but I'd say probably not worth the $30. Listen to those who say to get good front and rears, that should be all you need. IMHO: Subaru speakers stink.

Same place it's in OBS: under the passenger's seat. Unless you're a hip hop lover and need a really huge one. In which case you're in the wrong car anyway.

my kids have long legs and big feet I don't think under the seat is a good idea
