4 wheel drive and all wheel drive ?

I wonder why Audi is quoted as being the pioneer in the early 1980's, When the AMC Eagle was out with AllWheel drive in the mid 70's? JerryO

Was the AMC Eagle really and truly AWD (with a center differential) or did it have a manual transfer case?

It simply had a silicone filled coupling that would heat up and engage when slippage occured. Actually, true all wheel drive pre-dated the Audis with the NP203 transfer case available in GM and Dodge Trucks in the 70's and 80's. It had FT mode with a center differential and the ability to lock the diiferential.
