93 Legacy Turbo Speedo prob

Have an intermittent fault whereby I lose the speedo usually failing slowly over a mile or so. When it comes back after a mile or a week does so slowly also. Also after a while I get the "Check Engine" light come up. Looks like a cable fault. Anyone had anything similar?

Ah! So you're saying the Speed Transducer is fitted into the gearbox? I couldn't find it on my CDs so thanks for that. :O)) However it's getting bl**dy cold and damp here so will have to wait until the local garage is in a generous mood to put it up on a lift. Will report back when checked.

No cable=no signal to the in-dash VSS=CEL.

Hi, Kim. Yesterday I managed to persuade the local garage to put the car up on a ramp. I had prepared what the sensor looked like from a Subaru Manual CD 'sketch' which turned out to be useless :O(( Anyway we, the fitter and I could only find three transducers on the gearbox, one on the top and two smaller ones. The two smaller ones have a plus & socket connector, the larger one just a cable. We checked and cleaned the 'free' connectors but the problem is still there - no speedo at all! (It completely failed about a week ago) Any idea which one is the vehicle speed sensor?

I have a different speedo problem.

I have an MY08 Outback and the speedo is reading 15% higher than my actual speed, measured by GPS and by roadside radar testing units we have here in Australia.

Does anyone know if this can be adjusted by the dealer? I would imagine that fitting different tyres could influence this and require adjustment if it is measured by counting wheel or gearbox element rotation.

Thnaks, Geoff

Some manufacturers have speedo gears that the dealer is able to change. For instance, I know my Toyota Tacoma can have different speedo gears to match different optional tire sizes.

I'd make a warranty complaint.
