ABS in my 2000 RS2.5 doesn't work as given in 'drive'

I just received my new issue on 'DRIVE' by subaru. In it was an article on the anti-lock brake system used by Subaru. It stated that Subaru uses a 4 channel system that unlocks only the wheel that slips, but my 2000 RS2.5 unlocks the brakes on all 4 wheels when only one wheel slips. I sent an e-mail to subaru asking if they had issued a recall to update the ABS system in my car as I can't drive it as it came from the factory. I have to remove the ABS fuse so the brakes will work when the road has any ice on it. It has only been 2 1/2 days and Subaru hasn't answered my e-mail yet. The 'drive' magazine did say that ABS was intended to improve steering more than reduce stopping distance. But often I need to stop more than steer, especialy when there is nowhere to steer to. Anyone else find that they have a subaru that turns off the brakes to all 4 wheels only one of them is sliping? And did you read in 'drive' that the ABS doesn't work that way? JerryO

My MY04 WRX has four-channel, independently modulated ABS.

The Drive magazine issue you looked at was most likely referring to MY05 vehicles, and perhaps MY04s.

Seeing as you have a vehicle four years older, it's possible that your system does not monitor and modulate each wheel, independently.

That, is the question you should be asking.

The official product brochure for the 02 RS lists the braking system as "ABS 4 wheel, 4 Channel, 4 Sensor".

it is my experience that my 03 rex, with 4ch, ind. abs does NOT exhibit the behavior one would expect from a fully independent system. iow, if one wheel's abs becomes active, then ALL of them become active.

see various threads on nasioc.com about various abs issues.

fwiw, i have a dash switch to disable it and it *certainly does* get disabled in snow or icy conditions.
