Differential and transmission fluid change?

So, today I called two different dealerships to get the price for a differential and transmission fluid change charges at their locations. One dealership says that a transmission fluid change necessarily means that the front differential fluid is also changed, because they say it's the same unit. The second dealership lists them as separate procedures. Which one is right?

Oops, sorry, it's a 2008 Tribeca with auto transmission.

I see no inconsisteny.

Unit may be the "same" but procedures can be separate.

I am not familiar with the 2008 Tribeca auto tranny, but seriously doubt the differential runs on anything other than gear oil. The auto tranny likely needs ATF.

They are saying what they are saying because they probably want you to always service both at the same time.

Check your owners manual for what fluids go where, deduce logically, ...and decide whether you want to service both at the same time, or just one. Or seek advice and confirmation from someone who knows precisely.

Also, did you get any price quotes? How much do they differ? Does the price difference imply two services or perhaps not?

Yeah, I'm getting price quotes all over right now. Big differences from place to place.

One place (a dealership actually) quoted me $190 for the transmission and diffs, while another place (another dealership) quoted me $380, literally double the price! I ended up going with Mr. Lube, who quoted $240, not the lowest, but at least they were able to see me today, and I didn't need an appointment.

Yeah, but they filled it with reclaimed vegetable oil...
