I can't believe this

Check again - Hyundai and Kia (made by Hyundai) are running 100K on the drive train and 60K bumper to bumper. I think suzuki may be slightly better now as they have all figured out that it is cheap advertising. One of the best value vehicles I have owned is a 99 Accent. I bought it to do sevice work and have around 87K on it with minimal problems. So far it has been maintenance items, a flex pipe after 60K, recently a $5 alternator bracket and a couple of brake calipers (needed one, replaced both). Right now I'm debating driving it until it dies vs trading it in on a new Accent. $12,000 for the car against $40,000 in chargeable milage. (Yes, I understand the other costs but they are about the same or higher.)

You bring up another point - seems like Hyundai keeps their parts very affordable compared to japanese cars.

I have good news. You can justify your reason for existence by a thousand-fold.

Are you saying that you never made out of town trips with this Hynudai and only drove it in the city. Gee, previosuly, you said "The "crappy" little Hyundai Excel has so far been the most reliable car I have owned. What a joke! Either I must be very very lucky or these cars were not that bad after all. ", sounding like anyone who bought anything other than Hyundai was commiting a sin.

When I was looking at Hyundai - I did because I didn't want to just say "no" since the Hyundia place was just around the corner of Subaru - I asked the HP of V6. It was 2005. No wonder it was cheap. I look at carsdirect.com for all the Hyundai V6 of 2006 and the one with decent HP is not that cheap.

The Excel was awful. It burned oil excessively before it hit many miles.

I admit I am prejudiced against Korean cars, but they have probably improved a lot. I haven't read anything bad about them lately.

I own a Daewoo (another Korean company) DVD player and several Daewoo air conditioners. I am totally satisfied with the DVD player and I am ecstatic about the air conditioners. I don't know if this indicates anything about their cars, so take it for whatever it's worth.

Don't question the above logic as they were DOING YOU A BIG FAVOR and you did not realize it.

My wife and I took possession of a 2004 OBW with the Eddie Bauer package. We thought that we were going to be getting a superiour crafted automobile when we purchased a Subaru as a first-time Subaru buyer / customer.

We quickly learned just how 'good' a company Subaru of America and their parent Fuji Heavy Industries really is and how they stand behind their products...

In a year's time we've had 3 cases where the engine would QUIT without warning. Dead stop. No igniton spark. No action when the key is turned. No dashboard lamps. Interiour lamps work but nothing else.

We've had the car back three times to the Dealer. All they did was change parts like the ECM, the Battery cables, The alternator and the Master Fuse. Did not matter if it was hot or cold outside or if the engine was running 5 minutes or 5 hours. If you waited 10 minutes however the engine would start and run ok like nothing was wrong. Go on your way and a few months later, it happens again, back to the Dealer Service (Warranty) and same problem.

Calling Subaru of America HQ was no help. Their whole attitude was 1) Work with your Dealer, and 2) "UFO" [U. F-----g Own it]

Fed uo with Subaru's BS and completely incompetent "Dealer Service" service, we traded the OBW in on a 2005 Nissan Murano and have had ZERO problems. (plus Nissan gave us $4200 cash back (!) as a trade-in differential !!)

Don't discount that offer to buy a Hyundai so fast dear friend. Take a look at the Santa Fe which looks like a great mini-SUV.

There is no doubt in my mind also that Hyundai and Nissan will treat you much better that those bastard JACKA--ES at Subaru also. Is it any wonder that Subaru has the LOWEST customer overall satisfaction rating for any of the Japanese automakers per Consumer Reports ?

We sure know why and can attest to the same. Buy a Subaru and get the WORST of Detroit on the "bad old days" of the 70's as a flashback....

Amanda,

Get a clue!

Instead of apologizing to us, quit following up this crap! Dr. Rasty's been known as a problem child here for a long time, and any effort spent answering him is wasted. Combine that with the fact that many of us just aren't interested in your little behind the scenes soap operas, and it's no problem to lump you in the same category as Rasty...

We've been nice. But that could change rapidly. Knock it off!

Thanks for the info.

If I only care about reliability, I would probably go with Honda.

I looked (online) at 2006 Hyundai V6 (and other comparable features to GT). They are not that cheap either.

Rick is patronizing and you are getting delusional.

BTW, what I emant by "I can't believe this" was how he tried to tell me to get Hyundai after I explained to him my reasons for getting GT. May be he was getting senile. I am not taking anyone with me anymore.

You still dont get a clue do you 'ol skidmark of the panties?

***GO AWAY BITCH! THEY COULDNT CARE LESS WHAT YOU BUY. FUCK OFF YOU DUMPSTER ON TWO LEGS!*** Even YOU should be able to understand this. The dealer is tired of your shit too. Go away, go back home, shut and crawl away. Go buy that Hyundai, That Oldsmobile, That Toyota....no one cares what you do, Except the INS and IRS.....they are interested in you :)

That sounds plausible. However, what are the chances that the multiple personalities would end up duking it out on usenet? The logic, or lack thereof, and writing styles are very similar....

Certainly something to ponder about.

As I said, the car turned out to be surprisingly reliable, mechanically flawless, the only reason I would not drive it anywhere else but the city is because it is a 4speed manual (without an overdrive).

You still have to negotiate a bit. Don't dismiss Hyundai, also visit a Saturn dealership if you have negotiation aversion.

I know. When we stopped by to look at Hyundai, I wasn't even interesting finding out their prices since I had not done any research on Hyundai prices.

I just don't see why I can't negotiate from home. Out of 4 dealers (one is an hour drive), I am in touch with 2 of them. One of the other two doesn't have the color I want and the guy knows that I am not going to pay him extra to go get it from another dealer which is what he said I would have to do. Due to his location, he obviously doesn't care whether I buy from him or not. As for the other one, when the internet fleet manager told me that there is only one left in the whole state for *the color I want*, I decided not to waste my time with him.

Anyway, why Saturn dealership if I don't want to negotiate?

That would only imply that Ratis is not good in writing using his first langauge. Now, can you guys cut that off?

I'm confused, I thought Rastis considers Subarus a POS, therefore surely he would wish Amanda bought one, to add to her suffering?
