Knock sensor replacement 96 impreza

Sep 24, 2006 3 Replies

Hi,

I need to replace the knock sensor on my 96 impreza. Haynes says to take off the intake manifold and half of the engine with it. I think I can see the sensor bolted to the block under the throttle assembly, and that I could just whip out the old sensor without taking anything else off. Am I dumb or am I saving myself a lot of time?

Cheers, Andrew.

I've read of several people replacing that sensor. I don't recall anyone removing the manifold - though it may require a little creativity in tool selection.

I dunno

I did mine a bit ago, no need to remove the manifold, it should be a clear shot from the top, just need a long extension. The sensor is a black plastic piece with a bolt to the block going through it and a wire connecting to it. Should be an easy replacement - just don't overtighten!
