I went to NAPA ceramic pads on my 97 sport and 99 legacy outbacks (though I've since traded my 99 for an Xterra). They solved the sounds, squeaking, and pretty much any other noise from the brakes. They're a bit more expensive than aftermarket semi-metalic pads but less than OEM pads. They also are supposed to fade less and are less abrasive on rotors yet stop much better than the OEMs, at least that's what I've found and I live in the mountains where brakes are abused just by driving to work.
Thanks... Brian Bergin
