Re: Thinking of buying Subaru: upsides, downsides?

You know, it is possible to get a bad egg from time to time. We all used to drive Jeeps until I found Subaru. I spent most of my time trying to keep mine running, while my dad and brother never had a single problem.

My dad has 2 Subies right now and I will have my second when I can sell my last Jeep. I think they are a masterpiece of engineering. I have never had a major problem as long as I keep with the maintenance schedule.

I have heard bad things about the 2.5 engine. I have a 2.2 and my dad has 2 with 1.8 and no problems so far. All three have well over 100k miles and one of them over 175k.

My advice to you is to learn how to do some basic repair work to your car. This should be prerequisite for anyone who's job has them on the road. This will prevent many embarrassing situations in the future as well as save the rest of us from listening to incessant complaining.

Just a note: The more you drive a car, the greater the chance something will breakdown. It doesn't matter what car you own, they all break sooner or later. They are imperfect machines built by imperfect people. Some break more than others, even the best brands can have a bad egg that is prone to repairs.

That's life.
