I finally decided to replace the Yokohama Geolander tires that came with my 2004 Forester. I found a Kumho tire that is highly rated at tirerack.com at a good price, which I cannot find at the few tire stores in my area. If I order them from tirerack, I will have to have them installed in my area. What is a reasonable price to pay for installation of tires bought elsewhere? Goodyear charges about $30 per tire. Is that the usual price? Thanks for any suggestions?

Ask Tire Rack if they have any authorized installers in your area. If so they can drop-ship the tires to them directly which is much more convenient than having them sent to your house and then bringing them to the shop. Mounting and balancing costs will vary but cheapest is not always best, chances are a TR-authorized shop will have better equipment and be less likely to damage your wheels or balance them improperly.
Discount Tire charges $11 a corner. They also price match their web site in the stores...

Around here - $10 at Belle Tire, around $15 at Discount.

Do all these quotes include: new valve stems, balancing, tire disposal, free flat repair, free rotation, road hazard, sales tax etc? I can't believe a reputable tire shop would do the above for less than $20-25. ed
Extras like road hazard/rotation/flat repair are not generally included in the cost of mounting and balancing but are sold as part of an add-on package. Tire Rack does offer the option of road hazard coverage at additional cost when you buy a set of tires from them.
Discount Tire includes new valve stems, balancing, tire disposal, free flat repair, free rotation for the $15 (you can talk them down to $10 if you just say that Belle Tire will do it for $10) per tire. Lifetime (of the tire) road hazard warranty is an additional $12/tire.
