Scored flywheel??

So my early '03 Forester, 19k miles, is at the dealer to get the none-too-smooth clutch replaced under the clutch-judder TSB.

They call me and tell me the flywheel is scored, so they're replacing it too, and it should arrive tomorrow.

I know flywheel changes were part of the TSB, but I'm not sure if they involved resurfacing or replacing.

Anyway I wonder if it got scored during resurfacing, or if if could have happened during its 1 1/2 years of service. If so, how?

If the clutch disk is worn down to the rivets then the rivets will do it.

Makes sense. Thanks.

I guess I can't imagine it's worn down so quickly. They don't usually wear out on me at all. I didn't own this vehicle for the first nearly 6k miles (so don't know how it wsa driven then), and due to the tendancy to shudder, I have to slip it on start up more than I should, but still, 19k miles!

Turns out it wasn't scored, that's just the word the service advisor used on the phone. The work order said "hot spots", and the tech shoed it to me: discoloration, and surface cracks. Dunno if that's normal for the flywheels covered by the clutch-judder TSB, or if it's due to overheating.
