What color is your Subaru

(Okay, so it's a dumb topic. My mother told me there are no dumb topics, only dumb posters...)

In August I bought an '04 Forester. I was trying to pick up a year end discount, so choices were limited. I wanted red. Thought a red Forester would look sharp. Always have wanted a red car. Red wasn't available.

Got dark green. I've since decided I don't much like it. Looks more black than green, although once in a blue moon when the sun hits it just right, it looks green. Also shows the dirt and scratches too much I think.

[My feeling about this may be biased by a general dislike for the car caused by factors mostly unrelated to the car: IMMEDIATELY after purchase I got severe hail damage. Gotta love those aluminum hoods, though.]

"Emerald Green" 95 Legacy. Didn't have a choice either, since I bought it second hand. Funny thing is, I bought this from a friend of a friend; when I first inquired about it, we spoke on the phone and all he said was that it was a 95 Legacy. For some reason I just assumed it would be green, coz all Subarus around there seem to be green!

On my '98 Forester, they had to go to Pittsburgh (about 300 miles away) to get the red I wanted. When it got destroyed by an errant PT Cruiser, I replaced by a red '03. I want something that can be seen - although maybe the bitch driving the PT Cruiser was color blind. Greens, brown, black etc out for me. There is a phenomenon called metamerism where color looks different in different light. Wife's red Nissan looks weird at night in lighted parking lots;) Frank

------ Red, of course, for our 2004 Forester. Almost matches our red '89 Honda Accord, which we repainted last year -- from red to red.

The '03 Forester I bought used is White. Funny thing on '03 Foresters, I've only seen people over 60 driving them (I'm 40). Even the person I bought mine from is well into his 70's. Guess that means I'll be driving it for a long time. Hope so :-)

Always wanted to have black. Followed my wife's (and dealer's) advise and did not get, since it always looks dirty. Got Olive Green. It grows on you. Now we call this car an "alligator"

We wanted a white '05 Forester XS (i'm one of those over 60s mentioned in another post in this thread *g*) and the dealer siad that one was just off the boat. We put down a deposit and waited. And waited. And waited. Finally, because I needed to get some break-in miles on the new car before heading out on a long trip, we settled for the new-for-2005 Champagne Gold Opal. I have mixed feelings about it. The gold really makes for a classier looking car from the outside (it changes from what seems to be a warm silver to a rich gold, depending on the light, and will even catch a bit of color from whatever the car is parked close to) but the gold (they call it beige) carpets and seats are really too light and maintenance-intensive for day to day use.

And we installed the accessory body-color splash guards (mud flaps), which often appear to be a different color from the car because they are either catching the light at a different angle or else picking up the white of our driveway/carport pavement because they are closer to the ground.

Since we got our car, I have noticed that a snowbird (we're in Florida) neighbor up the street has a pre '03 Forester in -- you guessed it -- dark metallic geen.

04 Forester XS - Java Pearl Black. The paint has a greenish gold fleck in it that really stands out in the sunlight, if you can keep it clean enough. I wanted the Silver (5spd) but none were available at the time. Silver, in my opinion is the best colour from a practical point of view. It reflects heat and UV light well, does not appear dirty as quickly as most other colours and the leafing aluminum flake give the paint film the effect of being thicker than it is in terms of moisture transmission rate.

86 GL Wagon - Silver, bought new, still have it. Good all around colour.

90 Legacy Wagon - "Misty Dawn", whatever that is. It is an undescribable colour, sort of a bronzey taupey thing, bought it used, so no choice, kind of an ugly early 90s sort of colour, good car and good deal though.

Wintergreen metallic with titanium pearl and beige leather interior. It was the only '02 OBW Ltd. left on the lot with the options I wanted (like just about everything possible). I bought it in August when the new models were coming out (or were out, can't remember). I LOVE this car.

2003 Black/Silver Baja. Kinda honors John Madden, my favorite coach/announcer.

It doesn't show dirt to badly here in northern Idaho. I see you can no longer get that color combo. I think it's pretty sharp It's interesting, it has a red metal flake to it. Scared the hell out of me one day in the garage when I was California dustering it. The sun was coming in through the window and I thought it had been oversprayed by something in town. NOPE, just the way they designed the paint. ;-)

I was lucky to get the red on my 03 Imp OBW.

I do not recall the exact glitzy marketing-type "BS name" that Subaru gives/calls it's paint color...so I call it *Fire Engine Red*

Here's why...

One day I pulled up to the station to drop off some stuff to him and they had one of the crash trucks out for maintenence. Pulled right up alongside it for a few minutes and asked seven crew personnel if they could see a difference between the Engine and my Subie. All said it was an *exact* color match. (Now the Chief wants my Subaru to put gold-block FD style door trim and a number on it on it and make it his new "private emergency response car". (grin)

Nah, it's fun to check out other's rides. :)

Mine is a 1995 Legacy L Outback with the classic dark red and light gray. Not the bright red of the later years, but a darker, duller red. Forgot the name of the paint, but I really wanted a green Subaru. Yes, I know most of the new Subarus seem to be green, but I've always wanted a green car.

Mom has just that - a 1998 Forester S in dark green.
