WRX Wheels to Legacy?

Jan 12, 2004 3 Replies

I'd like to replace the 16" wheels on my '03 WRX with 17-inchers. Can I put the 16's on a '98 Legacy sedan?

WRX tires are 205/55/16 Legacy tires are 185/70/14

According to tire/wheel combination calculator at

formatting link
will be an increase in height of only 0.68 inch replacing the14's on the Legacy with the 16's, with a 3% speedometer error. But I'mnot sure what else I should be looking for. Will it work? Would it compromise the safety of the Legacy? The Legacy is my daughter's car, so obviously if there is a safety hit, it won't do.

Thanks for any opinions you may have on this...

Should work just fine. I don't like the OEM RE92 tires from the WRX, but fit wise they'll bolt up w/o any issues, and looks-wise they'll be far better than the (I assume) steelies that came on the Legacy. Nice upgrade.

Should be fine. If memory serves, the MY1998 Legacy GT came with 16 in. wheels.

You are correct. The '98 GT had 205/55/16's. The rims were the same as those on the Impreza 2.5RS.
