1994 Shadow 2.5 timing question

I have a non turbo Dodge Shadow that I need to check the timing Unless there is a vacuum line or some other step I've missed, cannot time this rag. When you point the light at the timing marks t time it, it jumps so bad that you can never get a true 'line' on th required mark ?!? Is it that you just "get as close as yo can" and hope for the best or is there a definitive method t get this thing timed?? Any advise? Thank

You need to disconnect the coolant sensor to put the SBEC into base timing mode.

maybe you don't use a timing light on that vehicle. i came across this regarding a 99 suburban

You can't check the timing that way. There is no adjustment for "timing"on these engines. All you can adjust is the camshaft sensor and you need a scan tool for that.
