2.8L V6, Sudden Stalling & Bucking

Oct 29, 2003 4 Replies

Hi Guys,

I have a 1986 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 with a 2.8L V6...

Up until yesterday (very rainy day) it ran fine then suddenly started stalling & bucking (like loosing power). Would not start immediately after, would take a couple of good cranks. I got it home while stalling at almost every corner along the way and took of the air bowl & started it up. It seems to run ok, but i hear a slight ticking noise coming from near the carb or distributor.. Also i looked down the carb and noticed the gas wash like flowing out, is this normal or should it be a misty spray?

Any Ideas?

Fred

Water under the distributor cap would be my gut reaction. Take it off and dry it thoroughly with lint-free paper towels. May also have sucked some into the TBI, if so, run some dry gas through it. Good luck.

People sleep peacefully in their beds at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf......George Orwell.

Would that also cause the ticking noise?

As another poster said, water in the cap/plug wires. That could be the cause of the ticking - the spark is grounding out through a crack in the cap or bad plug wire. tad

IIRC, you should hear a slight ticking noise normally, as the tb/carb actuates injecting fuel. s
