93 Pontiac Grand Am

I have a '93 Pontiac Grand Am that I "inherited" by default. It has not really been taken care of - unfortunately I do not have alot right now that I can put into it. Today it overheated and actually shut down. It did restart right away but was overheated. I let it sit for several hours and then added coolant and water (though there still appeared to be some in there) and drove another mile home. It did not overheat (it was literally 1 mile) but there was no heat whatsoever and when I turned off the car it sounded like the coolant resevoir was boiling. Any suggestions?

The lack of heat would indicate that you have air in the system - no coolant in the heater core = no heat.

I would start with the basics if it's overheating - has the water pump ever been changed? Is the rad plugged? Do you have a coolant leak? Are the fans working?
