'95 Subaru Impeza automatic questions

Need some advice on the operation of this automatic. This car has 113000 miles on it with the 4 speed automatic. This transmission will not shift into 4th until the engine has reached normal operating temperature. Then once that is OK the TCC will not operate until ~20 minutes of operation. Once all this warm-up is done the tranny will operate fine until everything is cooled off again. This transmission has fresh fluid in it. Is this normal operation for this car? Are there temp sensors in the transmission? Also the shift selector has a button on the left side that turns on a light below the speedometer labeled "manu." I assume this keeps the transmission out of 4th and TCC? It has absolutely no effect. Thanks everyone for your help/advice. Brian
