'96 Intrepid A/C Problem

I have a '96 Intrepid that has a problem with the A/C in that you can see vapor coming out of the vents, and eventually the amount of air coming out of the vent gets cut down real low. I suspect that the evaporator is freezing over cutting the air flow, because I can pump up the heat while the A/C is on and the airflow will eventually come back and I can enjoy the A/C again. What would the cure be for this situation? As always, thank in advance for your feedback!!

Cloaked has it pretty much right. The evaporator is getting too cold on the one hand, and perhaps the case drain is blocked on the other. First, make sure the condensation drain for the AC case is clear. Second, there should be a cycling switch on the expansion valve block on the firewall. Make sure nobody has jumped the switch to run the AC all the time, then make sure the switch is working properly and is cycling the system on and off.

The switch SHOULD sense lowered low side pressure and shut off the compressor till it rises a bit, keeping it hovering between

25 and 50 psi, or around there.

If you run the AC on Max air it will recycle and dry the air in the cabin, thus eliminating the fogging on fantasticly humid days.
